Hi,

Yesterday I put a new (to me) Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-HD-S2 card in my mythbox.

All appeared to be well as I could find a DVB-S card but but couldn't scan for channels. On reboot, I ran into problems. The boot process wouldn't complete or rather the splash screen reached 100% but the frontend wouldn't start. In verbose mode, there was a message saying it couldn't load the modules for a card and was hanging waiting for a time update. I'm afraid I didn't note down the exact message. Which I should have done.

Fortunately, when I took the card out and it all worked again.

I imagine this is a firmware / driver issue.

I've been looking around and I found this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=984940 and this http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000

How would I go about doing this on LinHES? Do I need the v4l-dvb? Or am I just on getting the correct firmware as the above posts seem to indicate? Are either of these available in the LinHes repository?

Any information gratefully received.

Many thanks.

have you tried the card in a windows box to make sure that it still works?

A good suggestion. I'll give it a go when I've time to do so. Probably won't until next week. I'll post back when I have.

For R6, all you should need to do is copy the correct firmware into /lib/firmware.
Though there should be no lockup problem without the firmware, but if the dvb devices are still being created by the kernel, this may be confusing the backend, if the tuner numbers are being changed.

Regards
Bruce S.

Cheers Bruce. I'll see what I can do about that. I've the cd, should I take it off that? Or is it available via pacman? I've had a chance to plug the card it into my windows box and it seems ok.

It should be OK from the disk following the Instructions, but the earlier FW downloads should still be OK.
