I'm thinking of doing a new build with an Intel Core I3-2120T CPU and Intel BOXDH67CFB3 motherboard. Based on this review and other posts, it looks like power consumption will be as good as or better than an Intel Atom / Nvidia ION build and the platform will have the horsepower to transcode at least as well as my current Intel E8400 setup. The wild card is the HD2000 graphics. Does anyone know if this platform can drive a 1080p or 720p display without video tearing or other problems? My hidef sources are all mpeg2. I also play back some h.264 files, but none of them are hidef. Thanks!

Found 2 more articles that talk about the great power consumption of this configuration

This article talks about the performance and power impact of pairing the 2120T with various motherboards. It winds up that the Foxconn H67S has an idle power draw that is only 1 watt higher than intel's, but is almost 1/2 the price at newegg.

This article shows that the 2120T with the right motherboard draws less power at idle than the ATOM+ION platform, but has the power to do transcoding and commercial skip.

Get it at Fry's... You have 15 days to make sure it works!

Amazon also has these parts and they also have a generous return policy. Decisions, decisions...
