Given the price \ performance of SSD drives, I'm wondering if there is an advantage that would make it attractive to use a small SATA SSD drive. Would like to hear from anyone out there that has upgraded from an electromechanical drive to a SSD drive and any lessons learned. Thanks.

Speed. Have a look at the SSD article on the Arch wiki.

The SSD in my desktop machine is great but would it make much difference to my MythTV?

Faster access times. Faster boot times. Mythfrontend will load faster. Beyond the initial loading, no, probably not.

@graysky: as usual, your response is well thought out. Thanks.

The main place that the SSD will help you out is with mysql queries. Sure it will help out the boot time a little but nothing that will knock your socks off or anything :)

My database query times dropped from 45 - 60 seconds down to 4 when using things like the program finder.
