Hi,
I just had a strange problem after my initial install of LinHES after a few years using mythbuntu. I just wanted to try it since I was going to install the new mythbuntu anyway, and so far I like it a little better, except for a headscratching problem I almost couldn't solve.
On my system with a Realtek ALC888 chipset, using spdif optical out, I was only able to get white noise with audio test playing through C, SL and SR. No FL and FR. I must have went through all the mix, upconvert, alsamixer mute/unmute to get it to work to no avail. I was getting ready to post here, but before that I tried to switch to the OSS sound. That had the same exact problem, (after having to switch my device to /dsp/ac3 I think it was). This was baffling. But, after switch back and letting it reload the ALSA drivers, everything works great.
So just a possible solution for anyone who might have this issue in the future.
Now hopefully I can get some info on the screensaver (or lack of) issue, and then I'm 100% happy with this distro and will probably stick with it. I like how it's laid out.
Thanks
David J.
