My old NVidia card just bit the bullet. Now I am in the market for lower priced hardware decoding video card that has built driver support in LineHes. I believe the previous card was a Fx440 previously.

thanks

Hi thekingofspain,

If you need a silent (passive) and low profile card you can use this PCI Express 2.0 cards.
I have the GT 630 in the master backend and the GT 730 in the frontend.
I use the VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix) for hardware acceleration and can watch HD recording without any problems.

Code:
1) ZOTAC GeForce GT 730 Zone Edition 2GB DDR3 PCI HDMI DVI Graphics Card ZT-71113-20L
- (ED 480p HD 720p HD 1080i Full HD 1080p Quad Full HD (4K) )

Code:
2) Zotac ZT-60415-20L NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 630 - PCI EXPRESS 2.0 X16 - 1 GB - GDDR3 SDRAM

You can use older card like the GT210, but I not use this card.

Thanks for the quick reply. Issue that I am having is everything i have is old...

Existing (now headless with a ATI HD 4550 SE i) backend:
Intel q6600
P965 chipset
Sata 1
PCI 1x16 (1.1A)
DDR2 8GB

Possible new backend from left over machine:
AMD Phenom II
770/sb710 chipset
Sata 2
DDR3 12 GB

I am running a software raid 1 which occasionally runs into issues with some mythtv server code is not software raid friendly; more sata bandwidth and cpu might help.

So the decision is:
New System (not listed above) (built in video or 1x16 v3 card)
1x16 v1 NVIDIA 740 card for existing server
1x16 v2 NVIDIA 740 card for possible server

Some combination of minimizing my cost / time wins...

Hi

Your card is a new model of the GT and have more than 1024 MB, it should work with LinHES 8.3, but the new cards are not yet in the supported NVIDIA GPU Products list

Ok, switching gears here, my video card is a Geoforce GT430 and it seems to be ok, and maybe the intel box has become flaky.

This card is working in 8.2 without issue both the intel and amd boards above. However when upgrading to the latest 8.3 via pacman, the card is totally off kilter:

X will not start
X starts but the the vertical is off centered, with the horizontal occasionally becoming off centered as well.

He is an upgrade of clean 8.2 to 8.3 system via pacman:

Code:
[root@mythtvamd X11]#  lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] (rev a1)

        Kernel driver in use: nvidia

The Geforce GT 430 is on the supported unified driver list as far as i can tell: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe ... 5159/en-us.

Code:
xtandr -q
HDMI-0 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 820mm x 460mm
    1920x1080    60.0*+    59.9    24.0    30.0    30.0

With those setting the starting vertical line is rendered 1/3 down the screen and wraps from the button back the top.

Hi

I have no solution for this problem, but you can try the following

Quote:
1) if X server start, you can use the "/usr/bin/nvidia-settings" in the GUI (ALT-X to get a shell)

2) I use the DVI-output of the video card and a DVI to HDMI cable.
If I use the HDMI output of the video card, I have problems with my Samsung TV

Still fighting this...

More on setup
Computer via HDMI to Sony Home Theater System
Sony HTS to TV via HDMI

LinHes 8.2 @ C->HTS->TV = 1080p
LinHes 8.3 @ C->HTS->TV = none, on/off, partial screens

Now here is the new info which is promising:

LinHes 8.3 @ C->TV (no HTS) = 1080p

I dumped the log for the good 8.3 run and I am working on forcing those modeline values to be enforced letting nvidia and X bypass the EEID scanning stuff altogether.

I basically gave up :(

Took the Sony HTS out of the system and reconfigured all the sound settings accordingly to go to the TV and be controlled by Myth.

I think my approach was doable, forcing the working TV Modline to the HTS, but the nvidia driver was sending something wonki down.

For every xorg change:
Reboot Myth B/F end server
Do the following three times for each output (auto, original, 1080p)
Set HTS output setting
Turn off/on HTS to validate setting
Turn off/on TV (wait for real off click noise, not just a blank screen)

Odd thing was with the same parameters the picture would be different upon multiple hardware toggles.

Lots of reported issues on the developer Nvida site with this driver and no working fix as of yet.

And again in LH8.2, LH, nvidia driver, & xorg worked perfectly with the default automatic settings..

Sounds like the EID from the Home Theater box is screwing up your Nvidia Settings. By removing it you are getting the settings from the TV that it wants. There should be a way to lock in those settings and ignore the EID settings of the Sony.

For my equipment, the above issue is fixed in LH 8.4. :D

Kind odd that the very mature X and Nvidia distros are having these quality issues as of late.
