ok. Now I see and I think I know what is wrong.

With that device type, lcdproc thinks you have an LCD not VFD. So as I recall you have to add the following to override the driver:
create a /etc/modprode.d/options-imon.conf file with 'options lirc_imon display_type=1' set.

As for the IR receiver, the above instructions were for an imon receiver. Upgrading to 0.8.6 should be ok but there are some changes in 0.8.6. You will need to diagnose where your stuff is not working. If you made changes to your lircd.conf, those should not be required for a Philips IR receiver, it was just for all iMon variants.

if you use mode2 then you can see if the driver is spitting out anything and what the format looks like. I have instructions on how to use mode2 elsewhere.

If you feel you are getting in too deep then you should roll back to the previous driver and back out any config file changes you made. Check the Makefile in the lirc directory (where you did "make install") and there should also be an option for removal. Then you will need to use pacman (likely with -f option) to re-install the LinHes default lirc.

I don't have access to my stuff at the moment so I am doing this all from memory hence my lack of precision. But I hope it gets you going.

I was way too over my head, so I did back out. All the way back to R5.5. Thanks for the help, I will try again one day when I have more time.

I was able to wget the lirc from:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/

but when I try to wget the lcdproc from
http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/
I see:
"Connecting to internap.dl.sourceforge.net... 69.88.152.3
HTTP request sent, awaiting response..."
and a blinking cursor for minutes.

When I direct my browser to the same site, it spins its wheels waiting...

Is there an alternate download location for the lcdproc package?

Thanks!

Assuming you want the same version used in this guide,

Code:
wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/lcdproc/files/lcdproc/0.5.3/lcdproc-0.5.3.tar.gz/download

Thanks for that. I have updated the how-to for the new path.

I did not see ecumaniac's post; sorry!

I am attempting to get a GP-IR02BK remote working, without success. I've started a new thread for this issue, located here. I'm posting a cross-reference here as I am hoping that someone on this thread can help me figure this out. Thanks!
