I would like to play .avi files for the kids on R6.02. A .avi was transferred to:

/myth/video/MyVideo/MyVideo.avi

'Media Library' -> 'Watch Videos' shows 'no videos found'

Tried running the thumbnail generator and rebooting. Do I have the video in the right place and do I need to somehow scan / register the .avi with KM? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

you might try going into Service Menu>MythTV Config>Setup>Media Settings>Video Settings>Files Types (whew!!)

Make sure that an avi file isn't ignored. Also check maybe default player? If no avi there, maybe add it.

have you hit the menu or 'm' button on a keyboard and selected 'scan for changes'? new files placed in the video directory do not automatically appear in the video browser

Thanks! The menu & scan solved the problem. I wonder if there is a URL that documents these easter eggs.
