I had samba working with 6.02. I noticed that after I installed a Lenovo wireless mini keyboard (click here for details), Samba stopped working. So I tried these commands to diagnose:

Code:
[root@mythtv samba]# ps -e | grep samba
[root@mythtv samba]# sudo sv start smbd
fail: smbd: unable to change to service directory: file does not exist

It would seem that there is no samba process running. I am unsure of what to do with the failure message. Any suggestions would be appreciated: especially any step-by-step instructions. Thank you!

Cool. I tried it:

Code:
[root@mythtv samba]# ps -ef | grep smbd
root      9075  6244  0 20:58 pts/0    00:00:00 grep smbd
[root@mythtv samba]# sudo sv start smbd
fail: smbd: unable to change to service directory: file does not exist

Not sure what to do about this. Not sure of the location of the 'service directory'.

Overview \ Observations:

Needed to enable the Samba from the LinHES menu. Strange that it stopped working after I installed the new HTPC Lenovo keyboard. I installed Samba and did not need to enable it form the LinHES menu. Hopefully this will not be a problem in the future.

Details:

Service Menu --> LinHES Configuration --> Advanced Settings. Just keep hitting the down key, there are more options not shown off screen below.
On the first page there are Read only checkboxes for myth and home.

Code:
[root@mythtv ~]# ps -ef | grep smbd
root     20540  4593  0 19:53 ?        00:00:00 runsv smbd
root     20541 20540  0 19:53 ?        00:00:00 smbd -F
root     20595 20541  0 19:53 ?        00:00:00 smbd -F
root     22057 20541  0 19:56 ?        00:00:00 smbd -F
root     22679 22636  0 20:04 pts/0    00:00:00 grep smbd

Ok. I had to enable the Samba from the LinHES menu. Strange that it stopped working after I installed the new HTPC Lenovo keyboard. I installed Samba and did not need to enable it form the LinHES menu initially. This is the first time I've visited this hidden menu option. Hopefully, this will not be a problem in the future.
