Post subject:  Moving Recordings

I am looking to move all current recording from one hard drive to another. Currently I have a 200gb drive that houses the OS and recordings, and a 1tb drive for recordings. I am planning on adding another 1tb drive (lots of HD content recorded). I want to have all the recording only saved to the two 1tb drives. This will leave the OS drive alone.

My main question is what is the easiest method for moving all the recording, and then update the database to point at the new location?

Thanks

On a high level, I would do something like this:

* Mount the 2 TB drives, let's say they end up as /myth/tv1 and /myth/tv2
* Copy all your existing recordings to either/or /myth/tv1 myth/tv2
* Go into mythbackend setup, change your Default Storage group to point to myth/tv1 and /myth/tv2
* Delete the existing recordings from the drive(s) you don't want them on after verifying you can access your existing recordings

Easy-peasy with Storage Groups.

I officially love Storage Groups. Did not know they worked in that way. Did an easy
Code:
cp *.mpg /myth/tv /myth3/tv
and
Code:
cp *.png /myth/tv /myth3/tv

Then went into Myth Setup, added /myth3/tv to default storage groups - removed /myth/tv, and viola.

Check all the recording, work like a champ. The longest part of the whole deal was waiting for everything to copy from myth/tv to myth3/tv, and refreshing myself on how to setup and format a new hard drive in linux.

Now my system reads:
Code:
* Total Space: 1,907,478 MB
* Space Used: 448,489 MB
* Space Free: 1,458,988 MB
Awesome.
