| Post subject: | How do i optimize my diskless frontend? |
a survey to those of you who run a diskless frontend over NFS using the built-in script: how fast does your FE run? and have you done anything to improve its performance? mine starts up really, really, really slowly. my BE/FE combo (which also houses the diskless root) starts up in about 1 minute. the diskless FE takes six to eight. mythfrontend takes about 1 minute to start. firefox takes around 1 minute to start. often, it takes 1-2 minutes for my library of recordings to appear when i choose "Watch Recordings." my hardware is a gigabit ethernet cards in both machines over a gigabit switch (install on 1.5Gbit/s sata). so it seems that this should be speedier. however, everything works great! programs take extra long to start and tv takes extra long to buffer, but there are never any pauses or dropouts. any tips on how to speed things up... if that's possible? |
