I accidentally posted this here, it belongs with this topic: http://www.mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16910
Your right. It was late and I was excited it worked.
The maximum effective range of an excuse is zero meters, so here's how I did it...
For reference, I'm running Knoppmyth R5F27
I'm not real good with linux, I just spend a lot of time in the forums here reading and googling, but this is how I did it and it worked for me.
I did this in 3 steps:
1) Update Mplayer
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4706
2) Update MythStream
http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~moongies/streamtuned.html
3) Install eSpeak
http://espeak.sourceforge.net/
Step 1: Update Mplayer
Click the link above to find the howto for updating mplayer. I'm not going to copy it over or rewrite here. The howto was recently updated and worked perfectly. Just make sure you follow GUIDE #1 FOR R5D1 AND LATER VERSIONS OF KM ONLY. It's at the top, can't miss it. I simply cut and pasted the commands into a command prompt from my windows box. I use Putty...

Step 2: Update MythStream
I put it into the /tmp directory and ran the following as root.
Code:
cd tmp
wget http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~moongies/sw9vc4htz2/mythstream-v0.18_1.tar.gz
tar zxvf mythstream-v0.18_1.tar.gz
cd mythstream-0.18_1
and the rest I followed from the install page on the web site...
http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~moongies/howt ... stall.htmlI took a shot in the dark figuring because MythStream was already installed, I could probably skip right to make and install under step 3 - installation. Still as root:
Code:
qmake mythstream.pro
make
make install
Step 3: Install eSpeak
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install espeak
At this point I rebooted and made sure it worked. I then mapped MythStream to the 'radio' button of my hauppauge remote and 'S' to the blue button.
The speech is such that you have to listen closely, and it repeats everything the cursor touches or MythStream does. I'm getting used to it, and I've used MythStream enough that I can see the menus in my head, mostly, so it gets the job done without having to turn on the TV. Plus the added techie cool bonus.
Ok, I just went thru this on my test machine to make sure it would work and it seems that MythStream may have had the storages updated again.
Apple Trailers are now part of the new storages. Sweet.
To get there, once you are in MythSteam, press 0 then 9. That will load the tarball demo storage and you can access the Trailers and other goodies. It always defaults to 0 0 (default storage) whenever you start MythStream.
Here's a primer from the web site:
Code:
MythStream Howto
MythStream is an unofficial MythTV plugin that plays Internet audio and video streams. The larger part of MythStream is built around the idea that enjoying streams is more than just playing your favorite streams. There is a whole world of content to explore.
MythStream uses external parsers to connect to stream index sites, playlists, XML feeds and content portals that can be browsed and searched for streams or media files. Support for several sources is included, other sources can be supported by adding parsers in the form of PERL scripts, shell scripts or executables.
Version 0.18_1 demo stream storage
After installing MythStream two demo stream storages (collection of streams) are available. A locally installed ("offline") storage is used to create the default storage in the MythTV database when MythStream is installed for the first time. There is also an online storage that receives demo storage updates between MythStream releases.
* After starting MythStream for the first time, the stream storage in the MythTV database is shown.
* To access the online demo storage: press 0, then 8.
* To access the offline demo storage: press 0, then 9.
* To access the storage in the MythTV database again: press 0, then 0
The demo storages contain several "folders" visible as tabs. The stream items in the "Interaction" folder use muti-stage parsers to query sites like worldwidemediaproject.com, shoutcast.com and wwitv.com by genre, country etc. The "Video" folder contains stream items returning online video files from Dailymotion and YouTube. The "playlist demo" items in this folder can be used to create playlists. Mark a video (key "M") to include it in the playlist and start the top item.
Press "S" (SPEECH action) to activate the espeak speech synthesizer, if installed.
Some quirks I've run into:
# sometimes I have to press the enter or ok button a second time to actually start playing a file even though it says starting/buffering. Oh, and if you press enter/ok while a video is playing, it goes full screen. You'll have to press enter/ok twice again to get back to the menu.
# some files play at a very rapid speed and sound like a chipmunk after his 4th double espresso.
# sometimes what station used to work doesn't anymore and then may suddenly start working again. Sometimes switching storages and trying again makes it work.
# the online demo storage seems to rarely work.
Anyway, I guess that's about it.
