I just used this method to have kmyth, winxp, win2k, and mepis installed. I hope this helps someone. Multiboot/dualboot knoppmyth r4v5 Oct13-04 1. use two physical drives. 2. my second drive was primary slave before this and had three windows 2k/xp installs on it, and mepis, in about 5 partitions. I use multibooting to try different setups and get the most out of my systems. backup the c:\*.* files to a safe place. 3. make the kmyth drive primary master, since my reading indicates that kmyth installs have only been sucessful to hda1 using autoinstall. 4. make the second drive primary slave [in my case]. 5. autoinstall kmyth. get it working. good. it will take up the whole first drive. 6. I tried to install w2k at this point to a partition on drive2 with no success. the message was that windows needed a partition on the first drive. 7. I used partition magic 8 to shrink the first partition, hda1, by 90meg. this made an empty spot at the beginning of the drive. then made hda4 logical, which made it hda5, Then I made the first 90 meg a fat partition. 8. To boot kmyth I created a grub boot floppy using one of many instructions from the web. I edited the menu.lst file to copy what the lilo.conf from kmyth does. 9. When I booted kmyth, it automatically changed the fstab to recoginize that hda4 is now hda5. everything seems to work OK. 10. I installed w2k to an unneeded partition on the second drive. This put the necessary files in c: I use a winnt.sif file that makes installation unattended except for selecting a partition to install to. 11. I copied my boot.ini from before the kmyth install. 12. Voila. the previous windows installs boot now. grub boot stanza: title knoppmyth redd0 /=hda1,... #oct13,04: root (hd0,0) kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.25-chw root=/dev/hda1 ro splash=silent hda=scsi hdb=scsi hdc=scsi hdd=scsi hde=scsi hdf=scsi hdg=scsi hdh=scsi apm=power-off nomce initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.knoppmyth |
