Discovered this tonight - maybe this is common knowledge - but not to me

I wanted to be able to listen to a radio station on myth that streams for windows media player

step 1 : wget the url for the station
from the website find the station.asx url and use it fully qualified in the weget command
fpr example
Code:
wget http://exodus.interoutemediaservices.com/livestreams/srh/today_fm.asx

then edit this file and find the mms url

which is mms://live2.interoutemediaservices.com/todayfm in this case

step2 :
In Myth ->setup multimedia->file types create a custom filetype
in this example use .tfm (abbrev for the radio station) - just dont use a standard one
For the player command use
xine -f mms://live2.interoutemediaservices.com/todayfm
and save

step 3:

Code:
 cd /myth/video

touch todayfm.ftm

step 4:
Scan for new videos

step 5:
got to the video section and with luck you will see an entry for the radio station - choose it and your station will stream using xine

maybe not a flash ui but it works without even any installations - and most importantly my wife can work it.

Just realised - its even easier because Xine has support for asx files directly.

So you can just do the wget in step 1, then put the resulting asx file in
/myth/video

Step2 then becomes a onetime mapping for asx files - using the command line

xine -f %s

So adding new channels is just adding new asx files to the /myth/video

Hope this makes sense.

Cute little hack. :) There are a few other methods that have been posted here and on the wiki.

Thanks for this hint. I want to share my experience for adding todayfm and also few internet radio for Indian music (in Tamil and Hindi languages). :D

1. For todayfm add the todayfm.asx file as declanh explained. Make sure the this file is under /myth/video. Then go to video setup and select this file and enter the command xine -f %s in the last line that has the command to play this file. Make sure there is 'space' between the command and the arguments. Then you will see this in the media library-video

2. For Tamil (www.merina.com)

3. For Hindi (www.apnaradio.com)

I will add the actual asx file entries later.

----
 One suggestion: It took me sometime to find the asx entries for the Indian internet radio (since some of them directly opened in the player and would not show the content of the asx file). Can we create a separate thread where anyone can post their asx files? And also a nice little icon in Media library for "Internet Radios" . Thanks.
