This may seem minor, but it makes for easier backup/restore/identification of modified menus and leaves the original untouched.

Instead of modifying the .xml files in /usr/share/mythtv/, you can copy a .xml file to be changed to ~mythtv/.mythtv/ and edit it there. This can (should) be done as user mythtv.

It is a small thing, but I find it helps to keep customizations in user directories when possible.

Cheers,

Allen

Wouldnt this also have the added benefit that your changes would be preserved across an upgrade (assuming they are still compatible with any changes to the version of mythtv)?

Yup.

Although when I upgrade, I usually rename the tar files in /myth/backup and only allow the sql database to be restored automatically. I do the rest of the files by hand.

As knoppmyth improves, the number of "fixes" I need go down. This helps to clean out the obsolete ones.

Cheers,

Allen

It would help us improve KnoppMyth if we knew what folks were doing by hand. This was the original idea behind 'problems and solutions'. But ignorant people couldn't frelling read. Sorry, there is no nice way to put it. I have my triggers and this really ticks me off...

Maybe if you renamed it "Bug Fixes".

I know it is explained clearly in the text, but as you say, ignorant people can't frelling read.
