Is there a utility one can use to speedup network traffic? I'm on a 100 base TX LAN and transfers to/from my mythbox are around 400 k/sec. Transfers to/from other boxes are on the order of 3-4 megs/sec.

Thanks for any info :)

You can use mii-tool to check what speed/media the card is set as. You can google for details on mii-tool. ethtool is another utility that can be used but isn't included (apt-get). More info on your NIC would be helpful as this maybe a kernel bug.

I'm using the onboard NIC (Asus A7N8X-VM). Here's the details from the manual (helpful or not?): Realtek 8201BL PNY 10/100 Mbps.

Here's the output from mii-tool:

Code:
root@mythtv:/home/mythtv# mii-tool -v
SIOCGMIIPHY on 'eth0' failed: Operation not supported
no MII interfaces found

Seems as though the problem is in SAMBA. I restarted it and now my transfer speeds to a win32 box are as follows:

1.2 gig file via SAMBA --> 157 secs (7.8 megs/sec)
1.2 gig file via ftp --> 108 seconds (11.3 megs/sec)

Dunno what to say. As always, thank you for your assistance, cesman :)
