Post subject:  Sega Genesis emulator suggestions?

What is the suggested Genesis emulator for a knoppmyth setup? I saw posted somewhere on here about apt-get dgen, and that's what's listed in the MythTV wiki, too. But I read on another webpage that dgen is discontinued or something, and that there are other, better, emulators out there.

So does anyone have a working Genesis setup going on? Any hints/tips or anything? Thanks!

Interesting....would that be better than using the zsnes, and nes emu's already included with mythtv? Is it easy to set up, do all joysticks work, etc.? I've got my gravis pads working with NES stuff, but the SNES one still doesn't recognize it. Guess I could try it and see.....have you set it up and everythings working?

MythTV doesn't include any emulators. I've used Xe as an emulator for the TurboGrafx-16 and it does work with a joystick. Take the leap and try...

I'm having trouble with Xe in Mythgame.
I've downloaded and extracted Xe. I found the "makefile" and did the 'make' command. It filled the screen with text, apparently doing the install. However, I noticed the following line at the end of the 'make':

Quote:
make: *** [xe] Error 1

I found Xe entries in both /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib, so I thought perhaps the install indeed worked. Anyway, I followed the instructions here for configuring the Mythgame setup http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Configuring_MythGame_Emulation#DGENS.2FSDL

My ROM file shows up in the Mythgame listing, so at least it sees the file. When I select the ROM, I see an Xe window pop up very briefly and then goes away. After the window disappears, I'm left looking at the ROM list that I had originally clicked on.

Question: does my symptom sound like a bad Xe install, or rather some other problem?

Arg, I was just about to edit my post to include that info.

Actually, I am using R5D1. It is the only install I've ever used. However, I didn't see Xe listed as a player choice (only XMAME, FCEU, etc). However, after my 'installation' it was a choice in the mythgame setup. (In retrospect, perhaps Xe was already installed, but mythgame was not pointing to it. Then, after my installation, I gave it the path mythgame was missing)

Here is my player setup info:

Code:
Player Name:  Xe (Genesis/MegaDrive)
Type:  GENESIS/MEGADRIVE
Command:  /usr/local/bin/xe --region 1 --fullscreen --render 1 --joystick1
Rom Path:  /myth/games/xe/roms/myfile

Perhaps I have made a huge mistake in attempting the installation of Xe. If you have any suggestion for me, regarding the direction of my troubleshooting effort, I would appreciate it. Perhaps there is a known good open-source ROM that I can use to test Xe, in case my current ROMs are bad.

PS: NES ROMs work just fine on my Mythbox, both before and after my Xe installation attempt.
