The motherboard uses an S3 Graphics UniChrome graphics card. Are you using the integrated card or another PCI card instead? I have seen problems where when an intergrated card existing and trying to use a PCI nVidia card the install will put the intergrated card driver in XF86Config-4 rather than the PCI one. Look at TJC's link point to editing above file or search around forums for "UniChrome" |

cannot find any file /etc/X11/XConfig-4. What is the meaning of that file? Is this the reason why knoppix doesn't start with X? Zubi |

Quote: cannot find any file /etc/X11/XConfig-4.
What is the meaning of that file? If you are usiing R5E50 /etc/X11/xorg.conf File contains drivers info for the X server, including video card driver. |

I do not use an other video adapter than the built in S3. I verified my /etc/X11/xorg.conf - but there is no registered line. Reinstallation doesn't change the outcome. How have I to edit manually the file? Zubi ~:)| |

This looks like something with your video card driver. I don't have that card or motherboard to tell you what the settings should be. Basically look in xorg.conf, there should be a section that configures your video card. Mine looks like this on an Nvidia. Code: Section "Device"
# The following line is auto-generated by KNOPPIX mkxf86config Driver "nvidia" VendorName "All" BoardName "All" # BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Your's should be something different. There is a long thread about the unicrome chipset below. Maybe dig though that stuff or post where you are at to that topic. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... e&start=60 Sorry couldn't be of more help... |

Hi, Until you can find the exact driver Quote: Driver "nvidia" you could try using vesa as it is a generic for those that aren't happy. Also check the
SubSection "Display" Depth 24 (or 16) Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection as I have been seeing the 1280x1024 setting being excessive in some hardware cases. Mike |

I was getting that error on my R5E50 system, using my PVR-350 TV Out. I had to change this line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf FROM: Option "fbdev" "/dev/" TO: Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb1" For some reason when the KnoppMyth installer created the file, it omitted the device name. Maybe it is something similar. |

Post subject: | Any resolutions on the unichrome? |
I'm interested in this thread too, as I have a unichrome(crap) built in video on a m-atx board I am trying to get running as my new mythbox. Currently I have an nvidia card in there and it works fine, but obviously in a m-atx mobo (where space is limited and air-flow is a premium) using on-board is the ideal solution. My unichrome was working with 5A22. I can't seem to find any info on getting it working in xorg though. Unless I missed something all the previous threads are about how to get the unichrome driver running in xfree86, not xorg. Yes, "vesa" sorta works. X starts up but all video playback is choppy. So are the menus. I think the correct driver to use is the "via" but the post install puts "nv" in the xorg.conf instead of "via" (even when there is no nvidia card in the machine at boot) and editing xorg.conf after boot doesn't work with "via" Anyone know how to get the "via" driver working? |
