Hi I was having issues (basically was black screen and pegging my dual core 3.2ghz intel) trying to output 1080i using a component dongle so I upgraded to 9746 and added the option to lower xorg usage.
It did lower xorg usage and I could view the recordings but now I get judder . it may be interlacing artifacts but I am not sure because it seems to be when people move quickly and I get motion blur.
I have the opengl sync enable in tv settings playback and in nvidia-settings I turned off vsync in both section as well as blitter. I also put the command "nvidia-settings -l" in my /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh ( i wasnt sure if that is the right place to load the settings on startup or if that is the right command).
In addition to the judder I also get freezes now in the menus with OpenGL enabled vs qt painter.
Finally when I run nvidia-settings I get errors in the terminal screen (bear in mind I have a samsung 19" lcd that I used to test because the backend and slave frontend are the basement and the tv is upstairs). The errors are as follows:
ERROR: unable to display attribute vxideosync to dispay specified on line 49 of configuration file' /home/video/mythtv/.nvidia-setings-rc' (no display connection)
Their are a preceding errors for opengl image, blitter etc.... so this is just along list.
I thought the install went ok. I tried to use the kernel path command that was given however it didnt work. So the installer said nvidia would build the kernel and I said ok. Was that wrong Here are some relevant posts from the installation log here

-> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site;
this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for
