Post subject:  R5E50 issues.....

Hello, first post long time reader,

My system is not all that fancy. I had r5d1 working with little troubles, except when I tried to install myth V.20 so I could get the auto comerical removal working, my system is an AMD 64 x2 (dual core) 3800+ on an Abit NF-M2 nView (nvidia chipset), 1gb ram, pvr500 and a M$ Usb remote (ehome), no serial ports on board so I can't use irblaster.sh or my home made serial rec/tras . again not cutting edge. I have about a week in total time invested in reading and installing R5D1 from fresh to the upgrade R5E50 along with tjc's info page, multiple times, also install R5E50 fresh many times. I give up. I am not a nuub to lunix but I don't know it intamitly like many on here. I can follow instructions when they are in a logical order. some posts on here are very incohearent but I have been able to make them work up till now. My issues are as follows:

1. remote don't work. copied files from backup and renamed others just like in tjc post http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=, no dice, ignoring the remote, I am waiting on a USB IR Transceiver from http://iguanaworks.net/ir/usb/... ordered on jan 9th and still havn't got it.
2. I can use the keyboard for other testing, the pvr500 plays tv but it jumps, pauses and shows the green screen. I have tried diff capture sizes (ie 720x480,320x240...) but all do the same thing, timer recordings don't work. database shows them there but no file.
3. I tried doing a re-install of lirc and have downloaded the sources and jumped through all the hoops in http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13404&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc also as noted I get the same errors.
4. I downloaded a new kernel (linux-2.6.19) from http://www.kernel.org/ and done the usual links and other fun stuff. also to no avail.
Code:
root@mythtv-amd:/usr/src/linux# make menuconfig
  HOSTCC  scripts/basic/fixdep
In file included from /usr/include/sys/socket.h:35,
                 from /usr/include/netinet/in.h:24,
                 from /usr/include/arpa/inet.h:23,
                 from scripts/basic/fixdep.c:115:
/usr/include/bits/socket.h:304:24: error: asm/socket.h: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [scripts/basic/fixdep] Error 1
make: *** [scripts_basic] Error 2

Same errors as with the kernel-source-2.6.18-chw-13.

I am confused about the kernel, I have compiled many in my travels, but this one eludes me.

if i could make a request?, a list of all the scripts and log file locations would be nice. I would like to get to know this animal better.

again this is my first post, I hope the format is correct.

ps... as I was writing this I got a package from ups, my plextor convertx (px-m402u). I will remove the pvr500 and see if I can get this working..

Kudos to the mythtv group and Cecil for all the hard work,
I know as with all things in life YMMV.

It looks like all of your troubles are with lirc.
Did you do the "/dev/lirc0" trick in tjc's section 3.1?

From first install it is not, but following tjc's post:
Quote:
3) The switch to udev for hot-plugable devices may cause some of the device names to change, especially USB devices.

3.1) The lirc device has changed from "/dev/lirc" or "/dev/usb/hiddev0" to "/dev/lirc0". This may require you to change the settings in your "/etc/lirc/hardware.conf", then rerun "lirc-reconfig.sh", and reboot.

I did correct that, but after all is said and done and rebooting, the remote don't function, also going to ssh and using IRW, it gives no output. I will need to install lirc-0.8.2 when I get the new usb transcever from IGUANAWORKS. they have a driver in the pached ver on thier site, but it is in 0.8.2 from lirc now..

I am installing r5d1 again and going to try new kernel and then upgrading myth to 0.20, I beleave that I ran acrossed a post or other info that stated that mythtv 0.20 needs kernel 2.6.18 or newer, I have read so much over the last 2 weeks that it is all a jumble now. I know I can compile things in r5d1....

Update: well the reinstall went well, but there was an issue trying to go to kernel-2.6.19 , compile went well. but the install kept crashing with the map file, found no fix..... back to R5E50.....

I had the same problem. I have the PVR-150 MCE that came with the eHome USB IR reeciver and IRblaster that plugs into the receiver. Mine came with the Silver RC6 remote. When a pressed buttons, I could see the LED in the receiver blinking but MythTV did not recognize anything. I also have a older Grey Remote from another cheap WinTV GO Plus board that just decided to try out. Without changing anything, I picked the grey one to try and it works! No matter what I've tried, I cannot get the RC6 to work. Must send out completely different codes that are not recognized. I have not been able to configure the IRBlaster portion of this setup at all.

BTW - The hints posting has been corrected to indicate that you need to fix the DEVICE setting _after_ running lirc-reconfigure.sh or it may overwrite your changes.
