it's a maxtor... so I'm not too worried, I've never had a failure with a maxtor

In my stack of drives ready for "target practice" I have more Maxtors then any other brand. Western Digital is a close second. Not a single Seagate in the stack. Maybe that is why they are the only brand to offer a 5 year warranty? Of course this isn't exactly a scientific study.

Bottom line is - any disk can fail at any time. If it's not backed up then you better be willing to lose it. (yes, I learned that the hard way)

Yeah, I wasn't about to touch that since reliability of harddrive brands usually ends up as a quasi-religous issue like vi vs. emacs. ;-)

I'm Unitarian when it comes to hard drives. [Go Seagate!]

that was wrong on so many levels.

edit: sorry mods - I'm done now - honest!

Well, I've been almost exclusively a Maxtor fan (even when I worked for Seagate) for IDE/SATA drives. I've had very good luck with them.
