I am havng severe network problems.... lost packets slow speeds...

I have downloaded the 2.6.20.4 stock kernel.org kernel + ivtv 0.10.1 and successfully built them.. But I am having severe problems with performance, and packet losses... this causes my frontend to stutter while streaming video over the network...

ok... this is what is tried:

1. Changed cables - no luck
2. Changed NIC - no luck, in fact, they did not even detect properly! They showed up as eth0 in dmesg during boot, but when the boot was finished, they were gone.. strange.... this might be a key to the problem....
3. Checked correct autonegotiation - OK (100Mbit Full duplex)
4. Disabled all excess devices not used in BIOS - No luck (all the remaining devices have their own IRQ now)

ifconfig shows no errors on the interface..
netstat -s shows some errors, but I don't know if they are relevant.... (they probably are.. )

Does anyone know what I should think of.... general tips on debugging these kind of things...

ping -s 1000 -i 0.001 frontend -- gives about 1% packetloss (same ping from frontend to another computer does not lose any packets)

all network traffic suffers, samba, NFS, SCP ....

I have a Realtek 8139too network card... it worked perfectly on KnoppMyth R5C (2.6.15 kernel)

Please help me..

It may be related to your point 2, did you change slots?
Have you tried out an alternate switch, I know that some aren't that good?
