Post subject:  Network problems... slow , packet loss

I am havng severe network problems.... lost packets slow speeds...

I have downloaded the 2.6.20.4 stock kernel.org kernel + ivtv 0.10.1 and successfully built them.. But I am having severe problems with performance, and packet losses... this causes my frontend to stutter while streaming video over the network...

ok... this is what is tried:

1. Changed cables - no luck
2. Changed NIC - no luck, in fact, they did not even detect properly! They showed up as eth0 in dmesg during boot, but when the boot was finished, they were gone.. :( strange.... this might be a key to the problem....
3. Checked correct autonegotiation - OK (100Mbit Full duplex)
4. Disabled all excess devices not used in BIOS - No luck (all the remaining devices have their own IRQ now)

ifconfig shows no errors on the interface..
netstat -s shows some errors, but I don't know if they are relevant.... (they probably are.. :) )

Does anyone know what I should think of.... general tips on debugging these kind of things...

ping -s 1000 -i 0.001 frontend -- gives about 1% packetloss (same ping from frontend to another computer does not lose any packets)

all network traffic suffers, samba, NFS, SCP ....

I have a Realtek 8139too network card... it worked perfectly on KnoppMyth R5C (2.6.15 kernel)

Please help me.. ;)

It may be related to your point 2, did you change slots?
Have you tried out an alternate switch, I know that some aren't that good?
