Post subject:  madwifi security bug

Does anybody know if the madwifi drivers released with R5D1 have the fix for the madwifi security bug(http://www.techworld.com/mobility/news/ ... e=samechan)?

The madwifi.org site http://madwifi.org/ says to use at least version 0.9.2.1. I can't figure out how to see what drivers I'm currently running before I think about upgrading.

No, madwifi in R5D1 doesn't have the fixed madwifi. R5D1 was release some time ago, the bug was recently discovered.

Thanks. Anybody know how to find the madwifi version?

I'm trying to update to 0.9.3.0, but I think my /etc/atp/sources.list is missing something. It can't find the madwifi-sources package.

I need the version to verify that the driver actually changed once I think I get the new one installed.

What does the following report?
Code:
# dpkg -l | grep -i madwifi

HTH

That dumps out a whole bunch of text. I don't have webmin setup, so I can't get the file and paste it here. It looks like the only versions in there are 0.9.2.

I got anxious and tried to update madwifi using apt-update and the other instructions from madwifi.org, but I get an error that the madwif package can't be found.

Has anybody updated madwifi in R5D1?

Installing the Debian way worked in earlier series. You should note with D1 being as old as it is and a stable release of Debian just coming out, you may have difficulties obtaining packages. And you don't want to dist-upgrade.... If all else fails the Debian way, install from source.

Looks like R5D1 must be too old for the debian packages that apt finds. I was able to do the apt-get update and apt-install madwifi-source and madwifi-tools, but after rebooting the kernel crashes. Looks like I'm going to have to install from source.

I've installed ndiswrapper from source, starting with a .tz file. Should the madwifi install the same way?

Maybe I can find the source install steps at madwifi.org.

I'm still suprised I haven't seen anybody else post anything about upgrading to be safe from the security bug in 0.9.2.
