Post subject:  Ubuntu Box Buildsheet Advice?

Hello,

I'm going to build (or buy) another box to put ubuntu (or kubuntu) onto and am looking for a little advice...

Here's what I want the box for:
- media service (all of my photos and flac audio ~150GB and increasing) to XP and Knoppmyth boxes
- maybe mythfrontend
- occasional work -- cisco VPN into work, vnc into work machine
- myth backup - for those shows that I can't bring myself to delete yet...
- web browsing, email checking, etc.

Because the box holds all of my flac files I want to have some mechanism to back them up. I don't keep CDs anymore - my place is just too small (I live in SF, CA).

One option is taking my knoppmyth hardware and making it my ubuntu machine and upping the cpu and MB on my knoppmyth box.

Any thoughts?
I get deals on Dell machines through my work - but it looks like it is probably still cheaper to just build a machine from scratch.

The build would be from scratch - I don't have any old pwr supplies, cases, or anything... I do have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse already. Monitor is a Dell 1920x1200 screen so the video card would need to output DVI.

Thanks!

SeanO

PS - I posted to General b/c I figured that this was general linux -- all of the other posts seem to be about KM issues... if this post should be moved off-topic that's fine with me.
