Has anyone had success accessing recorded programming from M$ platforms?
As a newbie I am not sure if programming is recorded in .mpg format or where they are stored.
It would be nice if it were possible to share out these files over my home network. Any guidance or pointers to existing knowledge is appreciated (I could not think of keywords to search on).

Format depends on your tuner, hardware based tuners like PVR-x50 record in MPEG2, same with ATSC, & QAM. Your V4L tuners record in a NUV (nupplevideo format). VLC is my gold standard for Video players on M$ products.

Quick/dirty way is to setup samba

Code:
/etc/init.d/samba start
update-rc.d samba defaults

id-mythtv
pwd-mythtv

Then access content from /myth/pretty over the network. Here are other methods to access too.

I like Tapeworm as well gives more data and is simple to setup.

Thanks! I was able to establish the connection with this command line

C:>net use \\192.168.2.20\mythtv

The files were available via windows explorer. This turns out to be very handy as it allows searching from a M$ environment.

BTW, I am looking at Tapeworm. It requires a username a pw for the mySQL database. I can not recall if I assigned it a password or if it is assigned automatically. At any rate, is there a UI where I can enter a username and password to test logon credentials for the database?

user@mythtvhost40:~$ mysql -u root -p
