dang. the bios im running is old. id like to flash it to a slightly less old one. linux noob.. so please use small words. the mobo is Intel (Tabor3) BX Motherboard R3. the link to the bios is http://support.gateway.com/support/driv ... am=4000532 (i cant find it on the intel website - its an old gateway machine - they liked to use these mobos) the bios update is in the form of a .exe file. The instructions say to copy the xxxx.exe to a IBM formatted floppy, and then reboot the computer. They make the point that the disk must be a preformatted disk, rather than one formatted though window (like i was likely to format a disk anyway). My windows puter is a laptop - no floppy drive. my linux on.. the one im trying to flash doesn't have a fdd - though i have several in the drawer. I'm a lazy man however. Can someone tell me a suitable way to flash the bios? danke. |

More than likely the instructions tell you that you need a DOS bootable floppy.stevetv wrote: My windows puter is a laptop - no floppy drive. my linux on.. the one im trying to flash doesn't have a fdd - though i have several in the drawer. Can someone tell me a suitable way to flash the bios? ISTR reading that some motherboard manufacturers are realizing that not everyone runs Windoze, and they are working on alternatives to the DOS floppy/executable. I don't know that anyone has implemented this however. |

www.bootdisk.com might be your answer.... there are several tools (disk images) at this site for creating a boot disk, as well there are directions for modifying a CD ISO so that you can have your flash file on a burnt CD that you boot and flash from. |
