I have a geForce6200LE and a Dell GX150 - the install app (most recent version now available) worked fine but on the first reboot, after the boot loading finishes, I get an odd black pixelized screen. I'm viewing this on an LCD monitor and when I look at the monitor from a strange angle, I can just about make out the screen/guide.

Any suggestions on what I should try? Could it be a viedo mode/refresh that I can set?

In short I had to install without the 5200 in, blacklist the intel_agp driver, install 5200 and was fine.

Thanks - I think that I'm probably in over my head on this one - I really have no idea where to start with doing the blacklist and recofiguring the drivers!

It really isn't as difficult as it seems.

/etc/hotplug/blacklist contains a list of drivers that will not load (since they are blacklisted.

The command



Adds the intel_agp driver to the end of that black list.

Then after you install your 6200 KnoppMyth will take care of install the Nvidia drivers automatically.

Within an Xterm - From the GUI you can access this with Alt-X. While you are in there you can see all the shortcut keys by more /etc/X11/fluxbox/keys. In that file "Mod1" represents the Alt key.

You most likely will need to do your list change as root.
press alt +x to open a xterm
enter su -
follow with password, the prompt should become a #
at this point you should be able to execute the suggested command:
echo "intel_agp" >> /etc/hotplug/blacklist

to edit (or create) a file would be nano -w <filename-here>

I prefer less as it is bi-directional for scrolling

Thanks to all - I managed to get the blacklist done - but not once the text portion of the boot runs, I get a black screen...

I think I've almost used up all my "stupid newbie questions" quota now....

Check the hints & tips material that tjc wrote up. Great stuff Dell has always had "issues" with video for me, audio also on the "older boxes". Human has done some good work with some of the issues as it would like to try to use the i810 driver even if there was an nvidia card.

Strange things to say the least. The "vesa" driver will work with 99+% of the videos to get you started. you can edit that in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.. towards the bottom and also sometimes you have to drop back to a depth of 16bit for the Dell to work corectly. Once all is tweaked and working, then go back and poke with the video problems.
