Post subject:  How to restart webmin?

OK, trying to get webmin going. Followed the webmin hints/tips, but after starting it up made an additional change to miniserv.conf, and thus need to restart webmin. How does one do this?

I tried /etc/init.d/webmin stop and /etc/init.d/webmin restart. It tries to do this but I get the error "start-stop-daemon: warning: failed to kill (number): No such process."

Also tried the tips listed here which suggested using some start and stop scripts in /etc/webmin/ but there don't appear to be any there.

I know I could just restart the server but that shouldn't be necessary.

Tried searching here for "restart webmin" and only turned up the samba HOWTO.

Thanks for the help.

/etc/init.d/webmin restart

Thanks for the quick reply cesman; as I originally posted, however, when I try /etc/init.d/webmin restart it replies "start-stop-daemon: warning: failed to kill (number): No such process."

(Number) is different each time I try it, btw.

EDIT: OK, this is annoying: I tried /etc/init.d/webmin restart just to confirm the warning. I got the warning. Just for fun, I tried it again immediately, and now it says it has restarted.

So I'm happy it's restarted, but now my question is, what's up with the warning?

ANOTHER EDIT: although it claimed it restarted, it hadn't as none of the edits I made to my conf file went into effect. After restarting the machine (i.e. giving up) webmin used the edited conf file and things worked as they should.

Post subject:  Why it didn't work

It didn't let me restart, apparently, because I had just started up webmin manually... I hadn't set it to load at startup and rebooted.

Once I did that, doing /etc/init.d/webmin restart worked as it should.

Thanks.
