I was having problems displaying x264 content.. It would shutter, and cpu usage was around 98% using mplayer.. XINE was a little less, but had weird tearing and "greening" of pixels..

I upgraded the version of mplayer (as found in this thread http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4706). and grabbed and built latest x264 from the svn (using the same directions as XVID)

Now while my CPU jumps to about 88%, however it is not shuttering and skipping any more. I'll continue to play around, and see if i can get it lower. I haven't tweaked anything else..

I'm currently running:

Video: NVIDIA FX5200 @ 1080p

btw, a big thanks goes to the Cecil and the knoppmyth crew.. The upgrade to RF27 was slick and and (almost) error free..

I dunno if your CPU/GPU has enough horsepower to decode a 1920x128 x264 stream, dude. That's a load of pixels even @ 30 fps! BTW, you didn't need to build x264; it's built in when you d/l the essential codec pack. That package you built is the encoder I believe... actually, I think MPlayer has native support for x264.

Well, it's working. I'm not going to lie and say it's perfect.. I'm using a x264 coded version of little men as my test movie. Like i said, on the newest version,
it was about 88%. I'm not sure if mplayer up scales the 720p to 1080p. I would assume.

Here is a quick snippet:

So it's running 1080p.. I'll grab a top the next time i'm watching something..

If you're in fullscreen mode, mplayer will up or down scale it to fit.
