try the apt commands, to search for the package name do apt-cache search gtk+

and when you find the package name do apt-get install <packagename>

it should install all the dependencies with it, if not you can do apt-get -f install i believe that would solve the problem. Good luck.

one thing that comes to mind, your installing glib, i'm not sure what knoppix is, if its libc or glibc, there is a difference, i'd imagine its glibc

thanks thats a usefull command, tho i get a vary long list of packages and cant seem to pinpoint the right one ^^"
i have tryed about a dozen now none of which work to the point
that i can compile gens
the problem is all the other pakages need this glib and when it install it its getting a version missmatch it says its 2.4.2 but the data is 2.3.2 or something like that and i have no clue how to fix the error

not sure about your version conflict problem, but the packages you will need to be able to compile stuff are the -dev packages.
