Post subject: | mplayer cropping / zooming on the fly |
My TV is 16x9. I have some recordings where a 16x9 show is encoded into a 720x480 transmission, resulting in black bands on the top, bottom, left and right of the playback screen when I watch with mplayer. TV shows that exhibit this behavior include all the more recent Stargate shows, Smallville, ER, Battlestar Galactica, The closer, etc. I can "zoom" the picture, thus eliminating the black bars, by setting an appropriate crop filter when I call mplayer. While this works, it is awkward because it doesn't give me an easy way to control weather or not to crop/zoom from the remote. Does anyone know of an mplayer command that I can feed in via LIRC to effect a zoom while mplayer is already running? I've tried using the "panscan" command but it doesn't do anything on my setup. Thanks! Marc |
