Hi tjc, Thanks but that wasn't very helpful. swapoff -a does nothing and top still shows it active and full. Only top even acknowledges it is lurking around somewhere. I can only assume it thinks there is something of value in swap and therefore ignores my swapoff request. I could simply reboot but that takes the fun away Mike |

why bother? let the kernel do what it wants and it will be happy, start messing around with stuff and then you cause problems. |

Hi, In the process of diddling with my KM box I managed to fill the swap and when one only has 256 meg of memory, a little extra space is sometimes needed. For some reason unknown to me, it didn't seem to self purge because of the playing I was doing, guess the kernel thought it was still important stuff. Anyway, a simple restart of the xserver cleaned it out and all is good again I hate to reboot! That's M$ way of doing fixes. Thanks Mike |
