Post subject:  Zoneminder/ Motion
Hi,

Just have a couple of questions.

I have just done a fresh install of 5.5.

I have just purchased some wireless swann cameras that output to svideo. I have a dvico plus card with a analogue in which im hoping will work to get the signal.

I am going to try and set up zoneminder or motion.

1. My question is if zoneminder on 5.5 is a full install or do you need zoneminder on another computer for it to work.

2. Why is there motion and zoneminder. If I configure does clicking motion start zoneminder.

3. If zoneminder is the full program in the setup menu do i just put the ip address of my machine?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, After lots of research I think I understand a little. Im still not sure what difference is between motion and zoneminder but i have it working kind of.

I can start motion but it freezes my computer and i cant stop my computer. I Hit the power button on the computer and when i check my images I see that motion was working and recording my movements. I just cant stop it once it starts.

I got Zoneminder working from a windows machine useing my backend ip address/zm. I can see a gray scale picture when i set up the monitor but the records etc dont work. I cant set zones.

I still am not sure what ip address to put in zoneminder setup if im using zoneminder on my backend. Has anyone had this working.

I got the web part working locally by doing this:

adduser www-data video
ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf
/etc/init.d/apache2 force-reload
/etc/init.d/zonminder start
echo "ZoneMinder should be launchable http://localhost:port/zm"
echo "It will not be restarted on a reboot, one can set it to run using webmin"

Now in iceweasle going to localhost/zm brings the control page forward.

It should be installable on R5F27 and work but I have not made it work with my bttv878 chips in R5.5 :(
