Post subject:  NOVA-T 500 still not working

I have the NOVA-T 500 installed.

All the drivers are in place and I have been able to set up the 2 tuners in MythTV.

Problem is when I scan, I do not get a lock on any channels. The signal strength goes as high as 56% on scanning but the S/N ratio never leaves 0.

I have connected a Freeview settop box to the very same aerial output and I have no problem with scanning and watching channels with that box, so the problem is not my signal or aerial.

On start up I get the message "KnoppMyth found no multimedia video cards" is this a clue?

Are there any further tests I can run to sort out where the problems is?

Have you turned the internal amplifier on?
Check the wiki for how to do this.

The internal amplifier is on. I checked in the options file.

cat /etc/modprobe.d/options

and I see

options dvb-usb-dib0700 force_lna_activation=1

I have not set up lirc for the remote but surely that would not affect the tuning.

How about that error "KnoppMyth found no multimedia video cards"

Sorry mate, I'm out of ideas. If it's picked up in mythtv-setup, I would assume it's ok. ...

Two things it may be (but I am clutching at straws here)

Firstly (Taken from the 5.5. hints and tips by tjc):
Quote:
2.5) Udev related issues:

Due to the way udev dynamically makes device assignments, certain hardware can have their device names or numbers shift versus older releases or, in extreme cases, even from boot to boot. Steps have been taken to stabilize the assignments for most common hardware, but if you're having strange problems with your capture cards double check the dmesg logs and mythtv-setup to make sure that the detected and expected card types match.

Or perhaps run optimize_db.sh from an Xterm. It can sort a lot of wobbly things out. It's saved my bacon a few times.

Is this a fresh install or an upgrade btw?

As for setting up the remote... it's a different way than most other remotes with the nova-T/S/500. Again check the wiki.

It is a new install of KM.

I'll try the two suggestions you have and see what happens.

Is there a log file that I should be inspecting to see why I get the error message about no multimedia card being found?

You'll be wanting to look at these: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles Should help hopefully.
But for an exact answer, I'm afraid I don't know. Have to get one of the real experts onto this.

The script that outputs this doesn't look for DVB cards, so no worries.
