Post subject:  irxevent (strace shows it getting input) doesn't run command

Hello All,

I decided to switch from the Pinnacle remote module to the Hauppage (as I've read the Hauppage receiver is slightgly better). So I've rebuild lirc to suit my needs, I've replaced the lirc.conf and lircmd.conf the /home/mythtv/.lircrc file seems file.

irxevent runs as per the .fvwm/.fmwv2
irwatch shows input
When I strace -p on the irxevent, I see that it's getting the input

however the irxevent until never seems to do the key pressing.

Anyone recommend what I should be checking out,

Thanks a million,
Mike

Post subject:  did some forum searching

After searching through the forum, I see... no need for irxevent, however still nothing ...

Do I need to make / do something in /dev?

Thanks,
Mike

It also seems that some of the buttons work in Mplayer, but nothing at all in mythtv.

so strange (-;

does your lircrc file specify the program to use?

for example

Code:
begin
    prog = mythtv
    button = pause
    config = P
end

Hello Xsecret, here's a snippet from my /home/mythtv/.lircrc

begin
prog = mythtv
button = Off
config = Esc
end

However, the off button has no effect. I even tried

begin
prog = mythfrontend
button = Off
config = Esc
end

It's unclear to me how lirc maps the prog from mythtv to the bin name mythtvfrontend, but it had no effect anyhow ...

Thanks for your comments,
Mike

try making that file /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc instead of /home/mythtv/.lircrc

Exactly and symlink /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc to /home/mythtv/.lircrc...

Umn installed with the "remote control option" ... ahh I don't think I did ...

I guess there is a specific binary with the haupagge features built in?

Thanks alot,
Mike

The Hauppuage grey remote should work out the box. Since you have a great deal of difficulty, I suggest backing up then reinstalling using the auto upgrade option. I'm assuming you have the grey remote. If you have the black remote, you just need the lircd.conf and lircrc which are in the ivtv and or mythtv source(cannot remember which at the moment). Delete /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc before backing up...

and if you are going to reinstall remember to choose the ir remote option, so you get the binaries that have lirc support in them.

Ehh ... I think i'm going to try finding these "haupagge capable binaries" on the CD and seeing if I can replace my existing binaries.

Think that mightg succeed?

Thanks again!

sure if you did the default install and didn't change anything you can as root type install-i686-l and it will install them for you.
