Post subject:  sudden NFS problem

I had been using NFS in R5.5 to share music files without incident, but suddenly the client would not mount the folder, despite the line in the fstab that had been working. When I attempted to mount the filesystem manually using the command line, I got this message:

rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
Either use '-o nolocks' to keep locks local, or start statd.

As root I ran rpc.statd, and then I could mount the filesystem, but this only worked temporarily. Next time I rebooted the client, it would no longer mount, and I had to run rpc.statd all over again.

Does anyone know a permanent fix for this?

I'm having the exact same issue. Did you have any luck with this?

Sadly, the only "fix" I discovered was upgrading to R6.

I broke my box last night tinkering with this but couldn't find my R6 disk, so I have just finished restoring R5.5. I gues I'll live with it for now.

How did the upgrade go for you? I have a nonstandard lirc setup with homebrew equipment, so I'm hesitant to upgrade.

Thanks anyway.
