Post subject:  Console 'key presses' from ssh

I can see and hear the tv I have my mythbox connected to from my home office, but unfortunately my ir remotes range is not long enough to be able to control the frontend. Is there any way to control a frontend via ssh? I'd like to be able to pipe the key presses from the ssh session to the console as if I were using the console keyboard. Any ideas?

Perhaps a search of the forum...Someone else was looking to do something similar a few months back. A program(the name escapes me) was suggested that would do what you're looking for...

I mustn't be very good at choosing the right search terms, but I didn't come up with anything relevant when I searched before posting. Any hints on what terms to use?

I did find this:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... ote;#21315

It provides a web based remote control. This would work great for my purposes. The problem is that I get this error after editing the php page to match my myth box's ip:

Code:
Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to 192.168.0.100:8765 in /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/remote.php on line 110
ERROR: 111 - Connection refused

Is this because I'm already using lircd with my serial remote and it can't have two connections?

I've never used that, but perhaps it cannot connect to what daemon is suppose to be running on port 8765(kbde?)...

I'm assumming that 8765 is the port for lircd:

From http://www.lirc.org/html/lircd.html

Quote:
With the --listen option you can let lircd listen for network connections on the given port. The default port is 8765. No security checks are currently implemented.

Is this right? How can I tell what port lircd listens on? TIA

Well I've found a workaround for my problem. Using X11vnc, you can control the console keyboard/mouse:

Thanks for the help
