interesting. i see lvm can do striping.

it looks like the lvm info gets wiped out when you upgrade knopp. maybe its better to put all the storage on another pc and use nfs.

why would LVM information be wiped?

I am starting a new system (the old HD died on me) and was thinking about putting the default stuff on the 40gig HD and then LVM 2 160GB HDs together and mount it as /Myth

if I do that, would upgrade still wipe out the LVM info?

I figure if I upgrade and stuff didn't work out, the LVM should stilll be there and I just modify the mounting point.

In this thread http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... hlight=lvm cesman says lvm info gets wiped.

I am not an expert on lvm, but I think maybe it stores some info in /etc?

You won't lose your lvm information as long as you follow the instructions here

http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO/recipemovevgtonewsys.html

I did it this way and it worked fine. Just substitute the vg names you created. After you have exported the vg, re-install knoppmyth, then import the vg into the new knoppmyth install

Quick note:

If you make the /myth dir an lvm partition, you will have to run mythrestore manually after you import and mount the vg on /myth
