Post subject: | Western Digital My Book Problem - Solved |
I have usb Western Digital My Book, when I plug it in, it connects and mounts to my LinHes box automatically. When I run df -k it shows: Code: /dev/sdb1 1952827388 169554824 1783272564 9% /media/My Book I can display the directory's on the drive but I can't write to it or delete any files on the drive. When I run a mount I get: Code: /dev/sdb1 on /media/My Book type ntfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,noatime,uid=0,gid=0,fmask=0177,dmask=077,nls=utf8,errors=continue,mft_zone_multiplier=1) What do I need to do to make it writable? |

Who owns and what are the permissions on "/media/My Book"? I may be wrong, but I thought only the NFTS-3g FUSE driver could write to NTFS volumes, not the standard kernel driver. Just to be on the safe side, I would reformat the drive and create an ext3/ext4/xfs/jfs filesystem. NTFS is for windows, not *nix. |

I thought about the reformat option but it's my backup drive for media that I use on a windows machine as well. I used it to move my media files when I was on 8.0 but am now on 8.1 I did a quick check and ntfs-g3 is not installed but is available from the extra repo. I'll give that a try. Thanks |
