Hello everybody. I am a brand new Linux and LinHes useruser although at 60 I am by no means brand new. I would ask therefore that you be patient with me if I am asking stupid questions.
I have an ASUS quad core AMD FX(tm)-4130 Quad-Core Processor × 4 machine with 4gig memory and two fixed hard drives of 2tb and 500gig as well as a 1tp external HDD I have a Gallium 0.4 on AMD CAICOS graphics card.
The 2TB disc is and has been for some time running windows7 with media centre and I have all all my cd\photos\dvd's and documents on it. I am using a twin Hauppague graphics card for my T.V. and have various other accesories such as surround sound set up.
That is what I have but I have as I said just started using Linux with UBUNTU on second drive and in most respects I am finding it great.
There are two things that I am missing so far one is for some other forum I think and that is that I cat't use the keyboard to zoom in and out of the screen from my armchair and the other is I hope for here and that is T.V. with pause rewind record etc.
After all that I have a simple question is LinHes (with Myth T.V.?) what I need?
Thanks for your time and patience and congratulations on a great site/forum
best regards

Hi, Thanks for reply. I have already read the article and I can't initially see any reason not to download and install but I thought perhaps I have missed something, as quite often happens these days, so thought I might get someone else's opinions.
If all goes well I would replace windows on the 2TB HDD but in any case I would appreciate any views about installing. I should add I have done some bits of programming in the past using DOS, BBC Model B BASIC, PASCAL, COBOL, V.B. and others but never even looked at Linux until last couple of days.
Thanks again for the reply it really is appreciated.

Best Regards

No problem with a second opinion. Before you do anything look for an Nvidia Based Graphics card that supports VDPAU

Will do. I thought I might have to but was hoping I would not need to as I have given mine to son. I don't think he would be best pleased if I asked for it back. Never mind if I have to get one I will

also if you install to the 2TB drive LInHES overwrites all data on the drive! I'm assuming that you have some videos and such on that 2TB drive that you would like to keep.

Yes I do have video, pics etc on 2TB Drive but they can be copied to external drive until afterwards and then I can move them back but thanks for the reminder I will add to list of things to do

Just checked my graphics card and it is AMD Radeon HD6450 (see attached) then rechecked in the Myth T.V. Wiki which show details below so I am assuming all is O.K. Anyway going to give it a go on the 500GB disc and see what happens. I am not loosing anything by trying.

Thanks again for help, I found that just bouncing Ideas around with others has encouraged me and also helped me to find where to look for info.
Great stuff.
