I'm trying to get dvd playing to work but when I run the appropriate script I get a message saying libc6 is not and will not be installed.
So I run apt-get install libc6 and it comes up saying debconf is not installed.
Try apt-get install debconf (I'm a newbie and don't know any better) and it tells me to run apt-get -f install. But then when I run that it comes back to saying debconf may not be installed.
If anyone can help me out with this I'd really appreciate it.

well you could use this:

Code:
dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/*

This command will either fix your box, or screw it over worse :D
i have never had it make things worse, but in theory depending on what your installing it can cause problems. Its (AFAIK) the only fix for your problem.
