Why isn't gzip enabled by default on MythWEB?

It seems unless I enable GZip under MythWEB it's useless outside my 100mb network, meaning no Internet access to MythWEB.

Is this just an oversite that hasn't been address yet?
It seems so simple that I don't understand why you wouldn't do it.

could be an oversight, if it's so simple why don't you post a howto so more people can enjoy it?

Well.. I guess gzip asks more from the cpu, and since the main purpose of the pc is displaying video the gzip compression should be turned off by default.

Now when you're shure you have a fast enough pc you can turn it on...

Like me now.. Could you please post some instructions?

What does gzip do for Mythweb?

It's a setting in the webserver (apache) that makes it compress all outgoing trafic. This results in less traffic (in kb), but a bigger load on the server cpu.

Generally, with a fast server cpu, it produces less delay in loading the page.

[sarcasm] wow almost a week, and no one has been able to document how to do the very easy thing that must be an oversite as to why it's not in by default. [/sarcasm]

Thanks for bumping this Xsecrets, I meant to comment on this earlier. You are right that it is interesting that he originally just didn't say how to do it. Instead he created a poll, well polls are fine. However I don't take too kindly to the wording of the poll.

In the past, I accepted feature request. I have a criteria for those requests (all requests). When it comes to the myraid of software and configuration option, I don't know all the possible options. If folks are aware of possible optimization, then they should state so. Give examples, how to set things and what the advantages are.

There are only two of us developing KnoppMyth. We cannot possible come up with every answer when it comes to software configuration. If folks see something that could be better, tell us. Follow the guide lines in my feature request. Don't create a poll and post with an attitude.
