Used the pretty-script to make symbolic links with .mpg extension to all my TV-shows, and it's working great. However, I've not been able to play them on ANY player at all. Tried VLC, Mplayer and Quicktime 7 on my Powerbook as well as PowerDVD and VLC on my PC. What format are these things in anyhow!? They're all transcoded into mp4-format to save space, which is working really nice. |

It's a proprietary mpeg4 codec called nupplevideo I belive, and you have to have special codec to view them. however if you have a pvr card and don't transcode them they are standard mpeg2 and anything should view them. |

Yes I have a DVB-T-card, but since I transcode them, they're probably in this "special" codec. What's the reason for it, anyway, not to use a standard format? If I want to transcode the files to an x264 I can watch on VLC, how do I go about it? Since I can't open the files in Quicktime and export from there, neither in ffmpeg... |

you can use nuvexport, but it's not incorporated and doesn't happen automatically, though I suppose you could script it somehow. As for the reason behind the codec you would have to go ask issac on the mythtv mailing list, but if you are not kind with your wording expect to get lambasted. |

1) If your files are transcoded, they are probably either MPEG4 (DiVX?) or M-JPEG. Mplayer will play them on the Mac, but not VLC as a stream. 2) Instead of wasting Isaac's time, search the mythtv-users or mythtv-developers mailing lists. |

To play mpg4-NUVs directly in windows use dsmyth. Remember to change the mythlink.sh script to use the extension .nuv instead of .mpg if you use the pretty-directory. Latest release can also convert to avi. http://dsmyth.sourceforge.net/ To convert .NUV mpg4 to divx/xvid avi, use nuv2avi. It's really fast since no re-encoding is done (should be possible to script instant conversion after transcoding maybe). http://mythtv.beirdo.ca/nuvtools/nuv2avi.php (should be included in knoppmyth imho) |
