I was curious as to what many of your reasons for building an HDTV Myth Box were.

I began my project and just received the TV (Samsung 61" DLP hlr6167W!) and am waiting for the Comcast Digital HDTV DVR to come on Wednesday. I can't wait. I figured I'd just get the DVR until I built the myth box. Now I got my mind thinking and wondering, what would I get out of a Myth box rather than staying with a DVR? Please respond with your thoughts

The few things I can think of off the top of my head are :
1. Able to retreive the data you have recorded off
2. Be able to retreive content from other DVRs in your home
3. Be able to add more storage
4. Be able to tie in a whole multimedia experience (music/movies/pictures/internet/etc.)
5. Ability to burn content onto a DVD

and the most important
6. The joy of tinkering / creating something.

Now I am weighing all of those options, and being that I have a modded xbox with a ton of HD space I am wondering if I may be going too far and not really need a Myth box.

Thanks!

Actually I got the Cable DVR box after having a working MythTV box system. The reason was it was basically free since it came with some HD channels. Having both the Cable DVR and MythTV I can tell you that the 2 are lightyears appart.

The quality of HDTV is great! My MythTV box is only standard so there is a big quality difference. However that is the ONLY area that the MythTV box lags and that's only beacuse I don't have it recording HTDV.

The Cable DVR has hardly any disk space as I am sure you found out already. However the worst part of the Cable DVR is the recording options. Try to record a "season pass" when a show changes times or is on multiple times a week. Next try to record a show that is 2 weeks from today (heck try even 8 days out).. the guide does not go out that far. These are the most glaring problems, but there are lots of other missing features on the cable DVR
