Post subject:  Really bad picture

G'day all,

New to all this and not sure where to start!

I installed R5 Alpha 22 on a MSI:km4m-v with a pvr350

The picture is really grainy, you can see what is going on, but just plain awful.
I have plugged a tv in to make sure the signal is good to the wall and it is.

I am now stuck and don't know what to do.
Is there anyway I can test at a low level to see what the problem lies?

Other than that everything seems OK (other than the remote but we can get to the later!)

Did you try to change the encoding settings for your PVR 350?
The bitrate should be at last 2000 kbps and the peakrate should be above 6000 kbps.
You can try to change this settings manually with ivtctl during watching TV with MythTV.
The syntax is something like ivtvctl -c bitrate=2000000 if I remember correctly.
It should be possible to watch TV with mplayer using the command mplayer /dev/video0.

OK all,

I have solved this problem, it was a dud cable.
Worked fine with the TV but not with the 350!

I made up a new one and all the picture was realy clear.
I'll start a new thread for my next problem.

Many thanks.
