Anyone know of a realistic aquarium screensaver for linux? Only one I can find is sherman's which has cartoon fish.

I'm thinking something like fish-byte.com. I want to have an aquarium screensaver running when I press a button on my remote.

Newbie here, with an unconventional idea. If you can find one in Flash, it should work. I've installed FireFox, and flash movies play nicely. So maybe you could launch a HTML page containing a flash aquarium? Just a thought, if nothing better turns up.

This is a really cool idea.

I think a new plugin should be made: MythFish

another option is to use the DVD for Finding Nemo, that has a fish tank mode.

Keep us updated if you find anything!

It's the nemo dvd that gave me the idea! Then I remembered the screen saver a load of the windoze guys at work use - if only it had a linux version. :(

hmmm,
all we need is someone with a webcam on their fishtank.
then just call it up as a stream :)
that would be pretty cool and has to be the ultimate fish screensaver.
something like....
http://www.fishvoyeur.com/

anyone know how to create a button in myth that loads something like this as a stream?

I am not at home to test this, but you can try adding a menu item either in /usr/share/mythtv/mainmenu.xml or I'd do it on the knoppmyth one, /usr/share/mythtv/knoppmyth.xml. Try adding something like this code:
Code:
<button>
<type>WEBCAM</type>
<text>Fish Cam</text>
<action>EXEC mplayer -fs http://24.34.40.96:8080</action>
</button>

That will open fishvoyeur.com with mplayer in fullscreen. Just press the same button you normally use to exit a video/mplayer on your remote to go exit out of it. Be courteous and please dont use it if you dont plan to view it. We wouldn't want to bring his server down with people streaming it 24/7, or make him have some huge bandwidth overage costs. It's probably best to hunt around for a similar webcam that is being hosted on public aquarium or university site. Here is one that is much better and higher quality:
http://216.186.139.43:1374/
(from www.floridaparks.com)

There are lots of high resolution aquarium videos out there. Some in HD too.
If you have that Nemo fishtank video as a video on your mythbox, you could have mplayer point to it too, just change <action>EXEC mplayer -fs -loop 0 /myth/video/nemotankvideo.avi</action>
:roll:

Thanks elgordo123, that worked a treat. I just need to find an even better resolution web cam and I'll be happy!

If anyone else wants to use this, the florida park webcam is now at http://216.186.139.43:1043
