Post subject: | Internet Sharing XP-Linux |
Hello, Im setting up my Myth box with a connection to the internet via a Xp machine, switch, ethernet. All is working fine with DHCP. But i want a fixed ip for my linux box, so i can access the mythweb. Ive done this with netcardconfig, and switching off DHCP, and setting the ip there. I have set the IP on the XP machine, and i can ping it from the mythbox. But i cant get the internet to work on the mythbox. Any help on this pls would be greatful Jim |

You probably need to set up your routing manually. DHCP tends to takes care of this for you. Unfortunately it's one of those things that's so instinctive by now that I'd have a hard time explaining it. ![]() |

When you set up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on XP, it sets itself up as a DHCP server. I had many occassions where I tried to use static IPs in this configuration, but to know avail. I would suggest to get a proper router, if not, good luck, your going to need it. |

Woohooo done it! Set the internet sharing on the XP machine, then set a static IP on the XP machine. eg 192.168.0.1 Once done check you can ping the XP machine from the linux box. ping 192.168.0.1 (ctrl +C) if all okay, then use - netcardconfig Select no to DHCP Selected local(linux) eg. IP 192.168.0.151 Mask - 255.255.255.0 Broadcast - 192.168.0.255 Default Gateway - 192.168.0.1 <----The XP machine Name Server - 192.168.0.1 ------------------------------------------------------------ Now that shoudl be it. hope that helps someone. this will see me through untill i get a router. ![]() |
