Post subject:  Can't set Alsa default permissions

I have been using /dev/adsp and /dev/dsp for several releases, but ALSA:xxxx has never worked. Now I want to use ALSA:mixed_analog because I am getting a mix of formats from the DVB card.

aplay -Dmixed_analog english.au works as root, but not as mythtv.

I checked and mythtv is in the audio group.

I did a search and found that this in /etc/modeprob.d/alsa-base is needed:

options snd major=116 cards_limit=4 device_mode=0660 device_gid=29 device_uid=0

I tried that and the device_mode, device_gid and device_uid are not recognized. I did more searches and it appears these parameters have recently been dropped.

I cannot find the replacements.

Anyone know how I can fix the permissions so mythtv can access the alsa devices?

Thanks,

Allen

AAARRRG.... Here I was looking for a problem with device permissions. The permissions on my asound.conf were wrong.

In the process, I learned enough about alsa to put in a significant update to the digital audio howto on wiki.
