Post subject:  Questions About Kernel Compile for SATA DVD-RW Drive

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out where I've gone wrong or what I still need to to in order to get my SATA DVD-RW drive to function under KnoppMyth. I am inexperienced with kernel compiling/recompiling and I've run into problems with a newly compiled kernel.

First, I'll tell what I have done. The Serial ATA DVD-RW drive in question is a Plextor PX-712SA. I found a post on the HCL that tells me that I need to make a minor alteration to libata.h and then recompile the kernel and the drive should be seen by Linux and function. I altered to libata.h as instructed and proceeded to follow the kernel rebuild instructions at DigitalHermit.com I copied the file config-2.6.13.2-chw-3 to .config and used make oldconfig. I did not want to change any of the kernel options. I just wanted to compile in the newly altered libata.h. The computer did it's thing and I made and installed the modules. I did not alter the initrd. I renamed and moved the System.map, vmlinuz. I added the entry into lilo.conf and used the same initrd file for the new kernel. I ran lilo -v. Everything was looking good. Upon reboot I selected my new kernel and I saw my Plextor drive was recognized as the computer was booting. Wooo-hooo! The joy quickly faded as I was unable to get into MythTV. The fun ended when MythTV was trying to load and it froze on the screen where you normally see "Scaling images" and the progress bars. I never got into the GUI.

Can anyone nudge me in the right direction as to what I need to do in order to get MythTV to work with my new kernel? :?

Isn't this the second time you've posted this? One way to get my mention (and not in a good way) is to keep reposting...

I quickly looked thru my posts and I did not see a post by me re: kernel recompiling. However, after you mentioned it, I may have PM'ed you re: getting that file included in a future release. I'm sorry if that's the case. I've removed that part.
