Hopefully someone can point me in a direction here...

I downloaded and installed "KnoppMythR5A30.2.iso" last weekend. I got a PVR-500, MCE remote, and am running it on an old Athlon 1.3GHz system that has a Turtle Beach sana cruz sound card.

Installation went surprising well, I've got the remote working, vnc, and I'm happy with my progress!

However, when I go to Watch TV (or play via mplayer the tuner), the cable channel will display for 30 seconds to a minute and then the whole computer will just restart. It's also not getting any sound. My samba seems to be messed up, so I haven't been able to try copying an mp3 to try that (that's next), but I'm hoping that the sound and the crashing issues are tied together. Did I miss some step or something? Thanks for any help - I'm so close I can feel it!

Ok, well I'm able to play MP3s on it...so that part works. Any suggestions on what may be the problem with watching TV?

Another update....

I guess the sound *was* working, it is just a lot lower volume than the MP3s....I'll have to look into doing something about that.

But the computer still restarts when switching to the video feed (live TV)...I haven't tried watching a video yet...I guess that will be the next step.

I tried a different PCI slot, and it still shows the channel (live tv) for a minute or so, and then reboots. Bah!

Perhaps greater hardware details. Does your motherboard have a Via chipset?

Yes, I believe it does. It's an older IWill KK266 board. This is mainly just a "test" to see if I can get things basically up and going, and if successful, I will dump more money into the project...so far so good, but I was hoping at least to see if the TV and recording would work, if not slower than optimal.

I'm downloading R5B7 right now, might reinstall/upgrade with that sometime to see how it works. THanks for any help!

There are known issues w/ ivtv and older Via chipsets. YMMV.

See the sticky "Hardware to Avoid" posting under the "Hardware" topic. There is a link to a page that Hauppauge provides with their latest info on hardware incompatiblities and any potential workarounds. However, experience has shown that some of these problems just can't be resolved. Caveat Utor.
